Social Business and Agricultural Project Manager

So They Can (STC) is a Tanzanian registered Non-Government Organisation conducting social development projects in the Mamire/Endakiso Wards of the Babati District Manyara Region. Our main focus is to improve the quality of education in poor rural primary schools, but we also seek to address systemic issues by developing social projects which will improve income potential and standard of living.

Role and Responsibilities

We therefore require a competent person to continue the successful management of existing business projects and to be instrumental in seeking opportunities for new projects to improve livelihoods.

As these business projects focus around agriculture, the SBA Project Manager will be strongly focused in fostering ecologically sustainable farming techniques by implementing such practices in our own farming activities. They will also be instrumental in introducing such knowledge to local farmers through Open Farm Day demonstrations.

The successful candidate will be required to interact with government departments, staff, stakeholders and community members in order to drive progress.

Knowledge and skills
Essential:
Experience in farm management and use of ecologically sustainable practices
Extensive experience of successful small business management
Fluent in English and Kiswahili both oral and written
Strong team leadership and organizational reporting skills
Experience of bookkeeping and project budgeting

Desirable:
Experience liaising with stakeholders and government departments
Experience in marketing at a national and international level
Experience working with NGOs or institutional donors

Personal Specification
Confident communicator in English and Kiswahili
Proactive and highly organized
Willing to live and work in a rural context

Remuneration
STC offers a competitive and negotiable remuneration based on qualification and experiences established according to the STC Tanzania framework.

Engagement
The successful candidate will be employed for on a six month probation with a view to becoming a full time member of staff thereafter. The successful candidate should be ready to start working by mid August 2015.
